(the) Fabian Society

(the) Fabian Society
a British political organization that was formed in 1884 with the aim of gradually changing Britain into a ↑socialist society. Many famous ↑left-wing politicians and writers have been members, including George Bernard Shaw. The Fabian Society was one of the groups responsible for creating the ↑Labour Party. It still has many important members, but its influence on the Labour Party is not as strong as it used to be.
